I'm not sure this helps, but every cellphone I have ever had (including every Blackberry) has a triangle somewhere near the signal strength meter. I imagine it would be the same for a Z10 as well.

I was told by my telco that BIS will be discontinued and hence the X10 will incur data roam charges like the iPhone. Is this true? There will no longer be unlimited data roam packages.

there's usually a triangle at the top right where you see the 4G LTE.

make sure you turn data off while roaming.

yep, you got the triangle with the "R" letter inside the triangle. similar to other platforms i believe (not sure of iOS, never seen any roaming sign on iphones, my bad..)

with no BIS needed for BB10, you may simply pop in any local sim when you're roaming, as long as you have the data service provisioned by the local carrier AND you have a significant data bundle, off you go! alternatively if you still wanna hang on to your sim then by default, BB10 prevents you to access the data when you're roaming (but you can override that from the settings menu to allow data) so you can simply jump in to any cafe to get wifi and you're on the net!

even you can use your Z10 without the sim inside, everything still works. just like any other smartphones.

You can't technically. But if you are roaming then you can turn off DATA while Roaming.
