BB10 connects using a protocol known as Activesync. It allows for push email and contact/calender sync. Most companies have this in service. On previous devices (bb7 and below) you could connect via BIS service just like any other email. This lacked 2 way sync though that Activesync provides. BES can still be used on BB10 and BB7 but is another service altogether that is not standard or available for everyone.

So if I was to acquire a phone with BB7, I wouldn't be able to receive corporate email if we didn't have a BIS server? I only ask because I am the exchange admin for where I work and I know for a fact that we don't have a BIS server any longer.
