    I am unable to turn on phone calls (only) in bedside mode.
    The applicable symbol/button on the bed side mode is and stays faint, although I have changed the default settings to phone calls in bedside mode.
    What am I missing here?

    You can try Setting->Notfication->Bedside->Phone to turn on the phone ring
