Do i use any minutes if i am connected to my router at home via wifi and call people. In the tmobile bill theres a (U) next to the calls and says its hot spot calling. So will these minutes get deducted from my total minutes?

Yes, you will get charged the normal minutes unless you have the Unlimited Hotspot Calling option. That option was my sole reason for switching to T-Mo. No more Minute Nazi in my household.
