I think you have Veterans Day and Memorial Day mixed up. Veterans Day recognizes those of us who have served, nothing inappropriate about saying "Happy".

Well, it's Remembrance Day for Canucks, even those of us temporarily ex patria, so it gets me a bit confused. Even though I don't get it off I'll be saving some thoughts for the 11th hour.

    No need to be confused...
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday which honors people who have served in armed service...

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.

Veterans Day is a celebration of those who have served and those who are serving. Celebrations by their nature are happy occasions.
Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor those who died in the service of the nation. There it would be inappropriate to use "happy"

I echo the wish that every Veteran have a happy day and thank them for their service.

They may occur on the same day but the intent of the two are completely different. I would never say to a Canadian "Happy Remembrance Day" as that would be out of line for what Canada is observing.
