Just curious how it works. I was looking for a destination in google maps while in a lab with absolutely no sky view and it somehow found my current location with pinpoint accuracy. It seems I can have gps functionality without turning it on in the program, or at least blip my location. weird.

If you had it on wifi it will find your location using your ip address, which can be extremely accurate. I was at my in law's cabin in the woods with no service and only wifi. street view of my location showed a picture of their front yard! It freaked me out because I thought that google only search cell towers for your location.

Could have been an assisted GPS lock, could have been something else. what do the GPS settings say in Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS?
