I have google maps installed and it recognizes my current location.

However what I would really like is to beable to do a search for a store etc in Google then click the map and select "driving directions" and have it (google maps) know where I am rather than having to input the "start location" So I do not have to open up the Google Maps app and copy the info into it.

Is this possible? I know it works on my GF's Iphone.

It would be nice for google searches to link to the googl map app

You should be able to do that right now:

From Google Mobile | Maps for your BlackBerry phone

Google Maps offers turn-by-turn driving directions - and thanks to My Location, you don't even have to enter your starting point. You can also get walking directions (only on BlackBerry and some Java-enabled phones for now) and find public transit routes in more than 50 cities around the world.

Maybe you have an older version. Also, for me the much better
application for this type of thing is TellMe
