Am I imagining this? I have a puck for my Curve (T-mobile) but haven't used it in six months. Too much of a hassle. Yesterday, my wife and I were driving from Los Angeles to Palm Springs. We thought maybe we had missed an exit, I clicked on Google Maps just to see if I could find a general map and there was an icon indicating our exact position on the map! Does it work without a puck? The puck is at home. I'm sitting in the hotel room right now and it's showing me where I am. How is this possible?

it uses cell tower triangulation. it is not anywhere close to as accurate as GPS, but does do a decent job.

This is often referred to as a gps puck:

8310 has built in GPS, 8320 does not.

I have an AT&T 8320, the sapphire blue one, and it has GPS.

No 8320 has GPS. The 8320 has WiFi. If you have GPS, you have an 8310.

Or an 8330, but the 8330 is CDMA, not GSM.

I think you are right but I don't have it with me right now as my wife uses it.
She has google maps installed on it and it can locate her. Is this because of cellular triangulation?

Yes, Google Maps will also tell you accuracy within XXX meters, and using cell tower triangulation, it is usually not a very small (precise) distance.

I assume the lack of gps on the 8320 is why Blackberry Maps is not included on the device?
I was able to load it and use it on my Bold but no luck on the 8320.

I thought Verizon had somewhat released their strangle hold on the GPS not too long ago.
