what's one of the best free GPS systems that everyone recommends?
i would like to be able to view a map and show my current location.
other cool options would be to do directions and find places.
i would also consider paying as well.

You can also try the Garmin Mobile trial. It is supposed to be for 7 days, but I've been using it since September '09.
Blackberry Maps works with the GPS.
Google Maps is cool because you can look at the satellite image and street view pics.
Both of these will do directions. No audio turn-by-turn directions with them though.
Just noticed that you are on Verizon. They lock out the GPS to third party apps.
The GPS will still work with Blackberry Maps, but it does not appear to with Google Maps.
Verizon has VZ Navigator, which is a GPS software. You pay a monthly fee. You can get it for short trips too.
(Both are GM and BB Maps are free! Google maps uses cell towers to determine and approximate location.
