Google Maps talk to me?
Can I get google maps to read out driving directions while I'm driving - also does it have a compass, because it keeps saying things like 'head north'? I don't even know which way the map is oriented - with north at the top or the way I'm facing?
What is the point of latitude?

I don't believe that the current version for the BB can provide VERBAL/Spoken directions. I'll leave the other questions to others.

North is up, top of screen. You can zoom out to get a broader view of your location and map.
Google Latitude is a feature of Google Maps that lets you see your friends' locations and share yours with your friends. Select Latitude from the Google Maps menu or install the newest Maps version to get Latitude.

Try TelMap Navigator. It's free and has voice guided directions with street names. Works great for me!
