I'm with Bell and google maps GPS doesn't work for me. It only detects the nearest dish or whatever near me. The closest I've gotten is around 2000 meters away. That sucks.

Yes I know of the temporary fix of switching mobile network to gsm, but that only works temporarily until gmaps is restarted.

Does anyone else that is with Bell and Telus have this issue and how is it working for you?

    p.s. I'm still using .76

The only way to use Google Maps is to switch to GSM network, and once Google Maps pinpoint you to the exact location within 2m, then you can go back and switch to Global network.

Yeah, it is a pain to go back and forth to do the switching, but that's the only solution for Bell/Telus for now.

I believe if you search the forums you'll find a thread on this. The fix if I'm not mistaken was that you have to leave BB maps open in the background and tracking you. Google maps can't access the GPS antenna to activate it, but if the antenna is active and has a location then google maps can see that location.

I am not a google maps user, so I can't say I've tested this, but I did read it in these forums previously.

Is there a reason why you the current version of Google Maps (3.02?) would not work with any BB 9530 on any provider. If it works with Verizon, who locks their GPS location assist, why wouldn't it work for everyone?

I am on bell and no luck for me I even did the gps fix. No luck. What I recommend is do the gps fix then use bb maps you get a sat lock in about 1 second

Is there a way to have a Launcher for Google maps that would open BB Maps in the background and start GPS navigation in BB maps allowing the Google maps GPS to start up and turn off when you quit Google maps?

Yeah too bad the bastards at Telus are blocking the FREE Apps and forcing us to use their $10.00 per month Navigator! It's bad enough we can't MMS text with telus!
