i just downloaded and installed this on my ATT 8300, the triangulation works pretty good in denver, but i have a question. i am not on ATT's data plan, is this using data? is it going to rack up my bill this month or am i safe?
Good point. I just download GM's yesterday and although "my locator" had me withing 1500m of where I was, it constantly refreshed my location as I was driving. All in all pretty accurate for tower triangulation!
Bye the way Im in Bakersfield CA
I am using Ver. 2.0.1(#2026) Platform: BlackBerry -42.
Every time I hit "My Location" I get "Your current location is temporarily unavailable". It has never worked either indoors or outside.
Anyone else seeing this?
I have noticed that unless you are close to a Metropolitan area your locater will not work. I travel for work so in the one day that Ive had this program I have trialled the crap out of it. Bye the way its still a "Beta" version.

Yes, it uses data because it has to download the map info. Don't take this the wrong way, but why in the world would you buy a Blackberry and not get an unlimited data plan? That's just asking for trouble, in the form of large monthly bills.
And goodie for you. On my 8830, even with the app installed (2.0.1 version) the battery drained quicker then without it. And yes, that's with the app "just installed", not with it running.
Looks to me like there are different results depending on each install. It was fairly buggy for me. Seemed to pinpoint my location okay but the maps would run opposite on me. I was driving down the street and it had me going backwards and then the maps turned sideways. Plus I was constantly having to refresh my GPS. I decided to remove it. I wonder if there is way to get the previous version back?
On a serious note, please no statements like that. We all want to help, it doesn't matter where or what forum they are coming from. We have an awesome community here and let us keep it that way.
i have tried google maps on, let me think, 11 verizon 8830, and 4 sprint 8830s all running the latest OS (which i dont have handy at the moment) and i dont have any battery drain issues

My problem is since I installed it my battery is not lasting as long, I have not found a post on here about that. Is there a reason why Google Maps would be draining my battery, and if so can I do something about it.
BigJB, if you're still reading this, give 2.0.2 a try. It doesn't cause the drain issue on mine anymore. Make sure you uninstall 2.0.1 and reboot before you do 2.0.2. If you don't uninstall 2.0.1 first, the issue won't be fixed.
