Ok. This is silly. I acknowledge that.

That being said.. I just got my new Curve on Saturday. I have noticed that while on a call, when I receive a text or email, my phone makes no sound to alert me. On my Pearl, it would beep so I would know. I have looked into all my settings... Is this just something that is normal for the Curve? Am I nuts here??

jenay I think that's normal. On my 8310 I can't do voice and data at the same time, so if I'm on a call my IM's, texts and BBM's wait until I end the call. I have no 3rd party apps like JiveTalk, so those folks may have a different experience. Makes my friends mad, they think I'm iggin' em.

This makes me want to cuss.

So the texts aren't actually even coming through until I get off the phone!? Why was my Pearl different? It's the same carrier!

So this would explain why the boyfriend got huffy with me last night and sent me 3 texts in a row. They weren't in a row at all!! Oh GEEZ.....

    Simma dow now!!

That's the way it works on my BB, maybe one of the third party apps
could get you around this, I have a friend with JiveTalk that says this
is not a problem for her. (Except for BBM)

I actually asked a CSR about this very issue and was told that with EDGE, only voice or data can be used at one point in time, not both. The Bold (which boasts of 3G) will eliminate this issue, and allow both voice and data simultaneously. Who knew?

See now that is crap. The CSR was totally wrong. On my Pearl, I got my alerts while being on a voice call. Plus... read the above post from BerryWhite.. he solved this issue.

Why do CSRs say things they're obviously not sure about, and give customers wrong information? Tsk tsk!

Wait a second.. I have Verizon.. I don't even use EDGE. Nevermind.

does this only work for sms, or can you do it for email as well?

I would think you would be able to do it for emails as well.... Look under the Advanced>Edit options. I didn't happen to check for emails, just SMS...

True that - I think Verizon has an advantage in that regard. EDGE certainly has limitations. I was with T-Mobile years ago, and I seem to recall that I was able to get both voice and data at the same time. Then again, my memory fades with time (), so maybe not.

This is true... however SMS/MMS do not count as data.

I have verizon and you can't use data while on a voice call at least I can't. So the only thing I think it will alert you for are sms messages. I can't get mms (sucks) so I can't say anything regarding those. But data won't come through on voice.
