Try a program called BlackStar. I can't post the link because I have not been around here long enough.
BlackStar gives you current location, altitude, heading, speed and it also comes with a cool weather option that finds local reporting stations I was never aware of.
Search the other GeoCaching threads and you will find the app.
Cool,. I have been looking for the same app for the same purpose. Hopefully we can enter waypoints. Thanks!!
Wish there was a dedicated geocaching app. Maybe with the upcoming app store someone will release a nice one that can connect to geocaching.com and pull caches
That's what b* does
does that app work as well as a normal GPS. I have an eTrex legend that I was going to use but I thought that I would try it out on the phone also.
BlackStar absolutely rocks. There's supposed to be a new version coming out here in the next week or two too. Make sure you're hooked up on Geocaching.com and if you have a GPS lock, BlackStar will locate the nearest 20 caches. You can DL the LOC file and import the coordinates to BlackStar. It is really a great program.
Its a start but it still uses the browser to get the loc files from geocaching.com... If they integrated that feature into the actual program then it would be solid.
Unfortunately, Groundspeak, which owns and operates geocaching.com, does not allow public access to their data. Their API is locked down only to certain companies, mainly Trimble Outdoors. I can't blame them, it is another revenue stream.
Trimble has an app called Geocache Navigator for the blackberry. There is a free trial. It is linked directly into gc.com. It is a pretty nice app. The downside is that there is a monthly fee. I think it is $7 a month, they also have an annual rate. And you need to be a premium geocaching member, so that is another $3 or so a month.
I am too cheap to pay for it, so I decided to write my own. So BlackStar was born. And it is free, every month.
But if you want live gc access, try geocache navigator.
Geocache navigator is good.....
I personally do not like to take the chance of messing up my BB while caching. I use my old Moto Q with Cache Mate on it for my paperless caching. BB is kept safely in the geo truck.

yeah $40 a year that's lame - I'll stick with this . Thanks for the app and the work you put into it.
How do you download the loc files?
you download the loc files from geocaching.com pick a cache and a button will be there to download the loc file
The latest version of b* (1.4) now integrates with bcaching.com - a free app for managing pocket queries from geocaching.com. You can setup up pocket queries to be emailed daily to bcaching.com those geocaches directly from b*.
