It is no secret at this point that a major BlackBerry/Google deal is in the making, which will most probably result in the upcoming BlackBerry flagship phone(s) running on Android OS.

My concern is, what if part of the deal Google pulls the plug on the ability to sideload apps (via Cobalt, Snap) outside of official Android? Wouldn't that have a negative impact on users of existing BlackBerry 10 devices (Z30, Passport, Classic, Leap etc.), who are currently taking advantage of this back door loophole? Unless BlackBerry and Google are working to make Google Play officially available to all BlackBerry phones. That would be great!

its a good possibility the runtime will remain in existing devices so you wont have any real changes

They could probably come to agreement with Goog that security updates could be pushed w/o affecting the runtime but a full-blown update like 10.4 will come without the runtime ala Flash.

    People should remember 2 things:
    1. cobalt/snap are solutions developed by the community and are in no way supported or advertised by Blackberry. Also Snap is against the terms of service of Google play, so at any time Google could block access and there is nothing we or BB can do.
    2. Google hasn't been blocking sideloading in Android since it was released even if it would help decrease app piracy in Android. I dont think they will anytime soon.
