Here is my setup:
Gmail Account
Apple Mail via IMAP
Blackberry on T-Mo BIS

I just started using IMAP access for my gmail account in apple mail. The problem I've encountered is that deleting messages from the gmail inbox via mail causes the items to all be redelivered to my BB! You can imagine how frustrating this was when the first time it happened I had just deleted a few hundred messages!!

Does anyone have a workaround or know how to solve this? If POP is the only solution, I'd just as soon discontinue accessing gmail from mail.

Is the apple mail moving it to the correct folder (the trash) and not some other location? How does it look in gmail's web version?
