When my company gave me my BB (Bold 9700, but I don't think that is critical), after unboxing, from my understanding, our IT Guy (ITG) had to load a company policy and register it with the corporate network before corporate messages would come through. Then he gave it to me. I will call the state of my BB at that moment the "Fresh From the IT Guy" state.

Out of curiosity, I did a complete Security Wipe (after changing some stuff, then wanting to go back). I was surprised that, after the wipe, I needed ITG to re-register the device. (I say this, because I read the FAQ on how to uninstall a policy, and it wasn't as easy as wiping.)

    So, here are some questions:

    1. Is "loading the policy" and "registering it on the corporate network" two separate steps?
    2. Is there a good way to "take a snap shot" of the device (or make a backup) so I can return to this state (i.e. Fresh from the IT Guy), so I don't need to go back to him every time my experimenting goes awry?

On my Android device, there are backup utilities (e.g. ClockworkMod Recovery) that allow you to take a snapshot, then return to that state at any time in the future. I guess I am looking for something similar for BB. Even if it isn't one quick step, is there a procedure I can follow to make sure I can get back to "Fresh from the IT Guy" state (and ideally, any other state after that)?

No. There are 2 steps. First is Enterprise Activation (EA). EA enables the BB to talk to the BES. The BES then downloads an IT policy.

A wipe breaks the EA. It's a security thing. However, a wipe may not remove the IT policy.

Best not to mess around the BB after EA.

    2. Install the Blackberry Desktop Manager software on your computer and do a backup. I don't support any BES blackberries right now, so I don't remember, but the backup should backup all, or at least most, of the "Fresh" information on the phone.
