After the Motorola Droid came out and is now offering free Google Maps with turn-by-turn navigation, will we be seeing a free navigation App for BlackBerry anytime soon?
    Thanks.

    Stupid question....

Let's say that somehow this is a version that is not expiring. Is it at all possible that Garmin could track the PIN/devices using it?

    Just curious

Couldn't get it to work right on my Tour....getting a message saying that it cannot find a paired bluetooth receiver.

Enabled GPS and all, and no go. Perhaps this is the version meant to run with GPS puck or other separate bluetooth gps......????

The only free turn-by-turn offering out there right now is LifeInPocket. It just displays arrows, and I have found that some of the paid apps give better directions, but if you are looking for free, LifeInPocket is about it.

Nav4All is also currently free, but they are switching to a paid service at the en do fhte month.

Totally free and totally offline: mgmaps (google it)

I downloaded all of my country (Hungary) from Google Maps, helped by this site: www dot mapcacher dot com
The database size is 1 GB (zoom range: from 10 to 16), I have copied that to the SD-Card.

    I use a BB 8900.

google maps gives you an arrow if your moving in the car.. it just doesn't audibly tell you when to turn and it doesn't readjust the route if you miss a turn

i have been using life in pocket for about 5 months now. its free and easy to use with a little playing with.. for me the directions it gives are about 95% correct and i love how u can look up resturant info, buisnesses and gas stations with a push of a few buttons and it will take you there
there might be better apps out there but i havnt found any that work this good and be free..

Google Maps, in my experience, is fine if a co-pilot is using it (I often-times use it as the passenger with my wife driving) but if you're the one driving it can be a pain. For one you have to be moving--and for a few seconds--before the dot reflects this, sometimes when my wife (at the beginning) has asked "do I go right or left" I have to say "I can't tell until you're moving" so often-times only then do we know the right way & a U-turn is then often required (we really need a cheap car compass).

The other is, since the dot often has some "lag" before it updates, you can't tell which road to turn on in time, especially if they're close together. Well you could go by the name, but then you can barely see the street name with the blue outline covering it up. Also, since Google Maps doesn't preload maps, when you zoom in for more detail as a turn approaches, there may be lag from it having to download that detail. It would be REAL nice to have preloaded maps as an option.

All in all, to me Google Maps is fine in "co-pilot" scenarios, but not sure it would cut it in solitary situations. (A stand-alone GPS may be needed--besides all that, try reading a 2.5" display of map detail while driving--not easy, or safe.)That said I do like how you can enter the address in 1 whole line, rather than having to break it up in parts, & it is handy to be able to copy-paste the address (say) from doing a text message 411 search from 46645. And of course being on your smartphone it's wherever you are.

I am going to have to check out mgmaps sometime, I particularly like the idea of a preloaded map option.
