hey wdekler, i have the 8130 pearl through US Cellular and when i try to connect, i get an error message saying unable to connect to satellites. it will use the cell tower triangulation but that is slow and inaccurate.

any ideas on how to get it to connect to the gps receiver in my pearl?

    thanks,

    Tim

i downloaded amaze everything set up perfectly, only problem is when the voice plays an audio byte it seems to be cut short, for example if it were to say turn left it would only say about tur.... then sound would stop. does anyone no why? if so is there a fix?

It's a known problem and there is no known fix as of yet. I think it's really a test to see if we can correctly complete the sentence.

I don't bother the voice problem so far. sometimes it skips a bit, but mostly only the part 'bout the roundabout for instant, so then I still now which turn I've to get.

To things I do both are the following:

    - There is no opportunity to forward the voice to my BlueTooth Headset.
    - When I receive a Call, the app stays active and keeps tracking me, only the Call screen is on top and there are now longer voice directions available, so infact I'm blind at that point.

Also I think it delay sometimes a bit to much, I don't know if this is because of the Curve 8900 (and his GPRS restriction (no EDGE available in the Netherlands). Or if there is another factor.

So far it is a good workaround while awaiting the first On-Board navigation software for the BlackBerry, Please McGuider / TomTom, release a BlackBerry OS app.

I think the bluetooth headset is a limitation of bluetooth headset technology. Headsets are not meant to be headphones (you can't get mp3s to play through a standard bluetooth headset). If you have a bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP), it does work.

My motorcycle's audio system includes bluetooth communications and bluetooth stereo. I can play mp3s on my BB and have them play in my bluetooth connected helmet. When using amAzeGSP, the sound files play in my helmet. Granted, they are broken up and not complete, but they do play.

So, if you can play mp3s over your bluetooth headset, then amAzeGPS should also work with the headset. If your headset can't play mp3s, don't expect to hear turn-by turn directions.

This is my one gripe about the Garmin software. I love hearing the actual names of streets, but Garmin Mobile doesn't support bluetooth audio. When riding my motorcycle, I can't hear anything using Garmin, and have to pay attention to the screen.

Both amAzeGPS and Nav4All work with bluetooth. I have found that (so far) amAzeGPS gives better directions, but lacks in the sound file department (known issue with the sounds breaking up). Nav4All will get me there (eventually) by taking me on some rather unique routes - the audio works wonderfully.

I haven't used amAzeGPS and received a call at the same time, so I don't know how well it responds. I know that with Garmin and Nav4All, the call screen comes up and you are driving "blind" during the call. I think, in both cases, I have to click on the application icon and I'm back where I was within the program.

I think that's the limitation, I don't use a A2DP headseht so most likely the Audio Files don't play on it, I thought there might be some settings to enable this, but to bad.

I'm now looking for a Universal Car Holder, then the lack of Sound isn't that bad. Only issue with those Universal Car Holders mainly is that they grip on the Side of the Phone where both the Shortkeys are located as well as the Micro USB port, have to find one which won't startup the Shortkey apps and also keeps space for a Car Charger.

I have used amAzeGPS while driving w/ a bluetooth headset; the call comes thru, and supercedes the gps program. After the call ends, I have to escape from the call screen, click on the amAzeGPS icon and I'm back on track.

Forgetting about bluetooth, has anyone been able to get the turn by turn directions to play through a wired headset such as the stock one that comes with the phone?

If so, was there a certain setting or technique to get it to work?

I just downloaded it for my BB Bold. Haven't tested it on the road yet but the UI and other features seem interesting. Can't wait to go on the road and give it a try.

I gave it a short test drive today.... route loaded up quickly - about as fast as my standard gps unit, and the voice commands were clear and timely. It did give me two bogus directions however. The first is understandable, as recent contruction has removed the road I was told to make a turn on.

The second was a bit odd. I was driving along a road with a lazy left turn in it, passing an intersection. I was told to turn left at the intersection, which went nowhere. But the route line told me to head in the correct direction. Maybe it was calculating the lazy left instead of the intersection, but who knows...

Overall, a decent app, with time I'm sure it'll improve, especially once they fully switch over to the new mapping system in a couple of weeks.

Lack of postcode search in the UK is a pain in the *** as i have to type out a full address.

Nav4all has this feature, hopefully amaze will incorporate it at some point.

Started a new thread that would have been better here:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f41/ama...fixing-272079/

Running latest OS on Tour 9630 (Verizon). Amaze GPS is great software but...

    1. Audio prompts ("Turn Left") pause music playing via media player (good) but media player does not resume when the audio prompt completes (bad).

    2. It seems that if you accept a call when navigating, the audio prompts never resume after the call. After the call, you'll have to rely on the on-screen navigation.

    Recommended features (from LifeinPocket):

    1. Navigate from Contacts.

    2. Ability to logon to Amaze GPS website and add addresses to favorites using a computer.

    3. Ability to reorder Favorites. It appears that they are stuck in the order you entered them.

It does have it's quirks, on the Storm at least, but the times I've used it the directions have been spot on. Took a bit of getting used too but really no problems.

problem with this is that you must have a data plan at some point to cache the maps. It does not take them off of your wireless, nor load downloaded google maps from your memory card nor use properity maps.

Do correct me if I'm wrong

It depends on the mode you are in. If you are just using the arrows screen, it will use the data plan to calculate the route. After that, it doesn't use the data connection again (unless you go of its course - then it will recalculate).

If you are using the maps view, it is constantly using the data connection to redraw the maps. Nothing is really cached, but the data connection needs to be there all the time.

Either way, data is needed. It's just the amount of data usage that can vary.
