- I'm new to the whole blackberry craze (so far i'm loving it). I'm looking for ways this fancy phone will better assist me in my profesional life as well as personal. So my question is, have any of the firefighters out there found any really good programs that they find to be useful at work?07-03-08 11:52 AMLike 0
- Welcome to CB! I don't know if your department is EMS based, but I use BEIKS Pocket Guide to Medications all the time. Stay safe!07-03-08 12:23 PMLike 0
- John YesterRetired SuperstarI have loaded a bunch of stuff into my memo pad. Command operations and pump info. plus I also you memo pad for recording info.... Wish they had a incident report software I can use... the more I search there is really nothing out there....07-03-08 03:12 PMLike 0
- Sure, here is a few to get started...
Toxnet Mobile
NIOSH Pocket Guide
CAMEO (They used to have a seperate mobile site, now main site works rather well on the berry)
2004 ERG (Haven't tried any of the 08 sites yet)
Radiation Event Medical Management
I haven't added everything I had in my 8830 in the curve yet, so I'll throw some more up then. Canutec has a nice ERG page that I'm missing and there are some more WMD/Counter terrorism related sites. But these are the guides we all know and love. Also there was a great mobile site safety plan checklist but I can't remember where I found it. Happy HazMatting!ctcfire47 likes this.07-03-08 03:22 PMLike 1 - Here are a few of the things I found that seem to work rather well. GCalc, great fast graphing calculator app that is FREE! Good for calculations on the fly. Also, http://www.skyscape.com Seems to have a number of BB EMS applications that seem pretty decent and look like they are ports from Palm/WM. Once we finally hit OS 4.5, I have an engineers cheat sheet (For Excel) that I would be willing to give to everyone. It has pump calculations for various sizes and lengths of lines. May not work for everyone dependent upon hose diameter, but you can modify it to fit your needs.07-04-08 07:22 AMLike 0

Just wanna say Happy 4th to all you First Responders, hope y'all have a Quiet and relaxing Day!07-04-08 11:32 AMLike 0 - Happy 4th to you and the rest of the gang as well!!
As for storing documents on the card I was never able to get this to work, although I really wanted to be able to access stored PDFs. There were a couple that I converted to images but that never really worked that well.
Now with docs to go it will be easier, I'll have to start converting some of my pdfs over I guess. I did throw a couple powerpoints on just for SandG but nothing that makes a good field reference.
Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!!07-04-08 12:11 PMLike 0 - you boys have a good 4th
hopefully i wont start any fires tonight
but if i do ive been smoking 30lbs of ribs since 8 o'clock this morning

- OK, I just downloaded a trial of BeamBerry that renders views of pdf files stored on your memory card. I transferred the Niosh Guide to my card and opened BeamBerry. Evidently they have to tranfer the file to their servers to render the view on your BB. I should've started with a much smaller file. That 6Mb file transferred to their server at the rate of about 3%/minute and ate my battery life. But after it was done, it was pretty impressive, but you had better know exactly what you're looking for in the NPG, because it displays about 6 pages on your screen at a time, so you can imagine how small they are. My next trial is going to be the ERG. The 2008 version is available now, but they have the 2004 version available by groups of ID numbers, where a series of ID numbers (i.e. 1401-1600) is one pdf file. That might make it just about usable on the small screen. I'll let you know how it goes. Stay safe!
Edit: Never mind....I read it wrong. The groups of ID numbers they show take you to a list of those numbers and each ID number has its own 20 file. Now that won't work. Maybe I'll try the complete 2008 guide.Last edited by gregski; 07-04-08 at 07:29 PM.
07-04-08 07:25 PMLike 0 - Happy 4th guys. I know some of you will be busy! I did 3 years vol firefighting before I became an LEO! Much respect!
Remember, if the flames turn blue "Run AWAY!!!"07-04-08 07:33 PMLike 0 - i am sure most of you remember the fire in charleston, sc last summer at the furniture store. i lost a friend...someone who was very close to my wife's family. his name was louis mulkey.
ESPN ran an amazing story about louis. it's a little long... 2 part...but it is being made into a movie because it's an amazing story.

07-04-08 08:42 PMLike 0 - Sorry to hear that Chip, I feel your pain though. Lost 2 Friends/co-workers April 4th, when the floor they were crawling across collapsed. The fire burned nice and hot due to 2 secret rooms in the basement that were made of Cedar. One was growing Orchids in it, and the other had pot growing in it. Life goes on, but they all will never be forgotten.07-05-08 06:20 AMLike 0

If you'd like, we could work with you to put Hazmat or other firefighter info in our catalog.
You can read about gRef here or download it OTA here.
(Somebody also mentioned one of our other products, gCalc which you can read about here).
