Because apps UI on iOS/Android and BBOS are way difference.
For example Facebook and Path apps on iOS has slide panel with completed animation, panel move with your finger and background panel rendered all the time, etc... Even the text field layout is more detail.

Apps on BBOS just dont have that level of UI/UX. It is like compared SNES games load time with Skyrim load times.
This is an excellent point. Are you really comparing an app to an app when they are different on different platforms? Twitter is not the same on BB and Android.

Thats exactly the point, fast animations and transitions don't make the app any faster, it just pulls a wool over your eyes.

For example when you open BB Facebook app it first loads the cached info and then without any warning it refreshes, no animation, no transitions, just fast loading, if you blink you miss it. Twitter is the same.

This is exactly my point, the supposedly slow and outdated hardware is just as fast as the high end competition and in some cases even faster.

But the lack of fancy transitions make it look slower, even compared to the PlayBook. I did not expect the 9900 to be so much faster then it.
The hardware isn't slow, it is just outdated. You can see from WP7 that the hardware isn't the only thing that matters. Software is a big part of it. The arguments with RIMs software is not so much that it is slow (because it really isn't), is that people feel it is not modern, the apps (many of them) do not look as good as their Android/iOS versions, the development process is nowhere near as friendly as the iOS/Android development process, and finally due to that, the lack of apps is what draws the consumers away.

Then you have the fact that many people still get freezes and lag (the spinning clock). These problems probably contributed to the reasons for why they think it is "slow".

In response to that, what actually matters more than the time spent opening applications is the time spent using that application until closed. Application and ui efficiency is what really matters oppossed to the incremental & irrelevant microseconds of app animations. That, and data loading speeds. As long as you can get everything done in a timely matter, and go about your day constructively, these microseconds don't matter & adding them up to a conclusive time is pointless. Although I still do get the point of this thread.

Agreed. As long as it is still quick and efficient, that's all that matters to me. And if I have to wait .5 seconds more for a more visually appealing app, I'm fine with that (even though I don't have to because animations can be turned off on Android).

So then you are agreeing to the only reason why BB7 is just as fast is because the level of detail in the UI/UX in the apps is not as advanced. Which brings it back to the point of the OS not being modern.

SNES was BB and Skyrim was the iOS/Android reference.

Well, how does it compare at oppening apps?
