i'm a heavy email / IM user on my blackberry so my 9700 is no longer able to handle the load it always freeze for several minutes before moving the cursor and i get lots of the black clock when checking stuff

i dont care whats the device is i just want the fastest CPU or RAM wise

by comparing the 9800 9780 9700 i noticed they all have same CPU and the 9800/9780 same RAM but the 9800 as a ROM what does that mean? is it like Swap on Linux?

since they all match the CPU but the 9800/9780 has OS6 so i think that might make things different ? (faster maybe?)

    please advise

    thanks

    I don't think the 9780 got OS5.
Clear up some memory, delete really old emails, and close stuff running in the background. That should fix it for you.

so no point from upgrading to 9780 or 9800 from my current 9700 to gain speed?

The 9780 and 9800 will perform slightly better with their 512MB memory, but if you can hold out until Q2 or early Q3 for the new line of BB's rumored to have 1.2ghz processors and 768MB memory, that would be a much more significant jump in performance.

I don't think this is a processor or RAM problem, 9700 shouldn't freeze or lag significantly. I suggest you start by checking how much user data you have stored (how many messages etc) and review any third party apps. If you don't find the culprit there it may be time to reload a clean OS, and upgrade the version if necessary.

As a guide my 9700 never seems to delay for more than a second or so when displaying messages, except when opening attachments which must be downloaded first (that's a network delay). I'm using OS v5.00.979 with very few third party apps running by default.
