FaceBook probably didn't mind paying 1B for an instant 28M user base. Sounds like a deal to me. Only people who seem to hate the sale are the neo-hipsters.

    Instagram sucks anyways.

Yeah I can understand that. But I don't know that it's really conceivable that you could assess a $1Billion tag on it. I understand why they'd want to grab it... just not sold on the price.
Venture capitalists assessed it at 500 Million this year, Facebook is offering 1 Billion in Cash and stocks, so they just made it too sweet to say no to.

instagram has 25million iPhone users, and 30+ Million Android users signed up the first week,
instagram MAY have some patents in the works toward filter technology, and they do have some talent inside the company that facebook can use.

IF instagram has any patents under works, buying patents for too much money is the song of the decade, so this is just another line in the song

How so? Facebook didn't even bother to write its own BlackBerry or PlayBook app - RIM did. Same case with Windows Phone.

I don't think this means anything for BlackBerry unless Instagram becomes open-sourced (like Twitter) where anyone can create their own app.
I wasn't around using bb when the original 1.0 facebook app came out for bb so I'm not sure why facebook didn't make it themselves. But I think facebook did develop the facebook chat app for facebook. Which is fairly new so it could be good news for rim getting an instagram appm rim b

I wonder if facebook would alienate other platform users (obviously BB being one of them) and not have a cross platform app or apps for the other platforms.

I didn't download it on my iPhone and wouldn't if it was available on my bb. I still check out the odd instagram photo through twitter though.

Could be the end of PhotoBucket and the like if it catches on across all mobile platforms.
