Ever wonder why your battery life goes down the toilet after you install Droid apps on your Blackberry?

"Of the tested apps, 67 per cent connected to a known ad domain, with each requesting about 40 different URLs, on average. Another 26.8 per cent of the tested apps connected with tracking URLs, in some cases requesting more than 800 URLs per app."

"The results indicate that applications on the Google Play Store often connect to destinations that are not essential for the operation of the app itself," the researchers wrote. "Furthermore, much of this communication is completely hidden from users."

this is not news. Many android apps i install have ads and i can only imagine they are communicating with the internet all the time the app is opened.

It's all part of the sacrifice you make when your connected to the grid. No software is 100% safe and/or secure. Even with high level encryption, they can still breach it if they wanted to.

History has taught us some very valuable lessons that some folks never pay attention to.

The Germans thought their naval code 100% with the enigma machine in WWII and what they didn't realize until years later is the British had already cracked it and where listening to their messages in real time.

There is no software and/or encryption that can't be breached, period. Once your connect to the grid, your vulnerable, using strong passwords is a good start.

It is one thing to understand that connectivity can result in security lapses and quite another to deliberately open yourself up to it.
