Which one craps out more and is more un-reliable?
A little confused by the question. Do you mean BES vs. ActiveSync?
Exchange ActiveSync is a feature of Microsoft Exchange.
I think he's just a bit confused...
Exchange is a GroupWare/Messaging/Collaboration product. Exchange ActiveSync is the protocol used to sync PIM data to mobile devices from Exchange or services that have implemented Exchange ActiveSync (these include Google Mail and Windows Live Hotmail).
If Exchange craps out, then BES doesn't matter as far as PIM data synchronization is concerned because that's where it gets the data from - the Exchange server.
ActiveSync is a reliable sync protocol. It properly hand offs between cell tower and WiFi. It works well even on slow data connections. Any decent service or Exchange server will/should have SSL enabled.
