Much has been said about BlackBerry 'pulling out of the consumer market'. Is it possible that Chen is merely telling the market what it wants to hear with no intention of doing it in reality? The Jakarta seems to be a direct contradiction to this.

I don't think that anyone has said that BlackBerry is Pulling out of the consumer market. Just shifting focus to more of the enterprise market that made them what they are known for and do best. BlackBerry is a business phone at its core so it only makes sense that they focus on its strengths.
