What is the difference between EDGE and edge? Why is my BB displaying edge instead of EDGE like it did before?

I don't know how to tell you exactly. However, according to my experience, when it turns to "edge", I'm not gonna be able to use anything with internet function. I'm not able to receive email, open webpage or chat. I still can get sms and phone call though.

Yup, turns out EDGE means the BIS is on. edge is just regular phone/sms.

GSM, edge, and gprs, all indicate that you may only send/receive phone calls, sms, and MMS.

edge/gprs also means that in some instances a generic data plan might be available.

what is a generic data plan?

i just looked up my account on rogers and it says that i am still on the $45 voice and data plan until the 5th of the month, but the 4MB of data is gone...

    My phone still says "edge"

SO confused. But I have the $15 email plan starting up on the 6th.

IMHO, generic data plan is a normal data plan that doesn't have BIS (like what I currently am using). Once you activate BIS, the 'edge' should actually change to 'EDGE'.
