In the past when you bought a new phone the instructions were to charge it for 16-24 hours. I've just purchased a Dtek60, does this thumb rule still apply to modern phone batteries?

Nah, go for it, have fun!

You should probably keep it plugged in because initial setup takes a bit of battery, and you'll want to play with it a lot,

But don't worry, go for it. As long as you keep your battery topped up when you can, you'll be fine.

You're probably going to be doing a lot of updating, so it won't hurt to keep it on charge while you're doing that, but there is no need to charge it for 16-24 hours.

I think it's good practice to fully charge a new device before using it. Just my opinion , however.

The electricity the manufacturer puts in the battery is special startup electricity. Best to charge it with regular electricity.

Maybe when our devices had NiCad or NiMh batteries, but it's not an issue with the Li-ion batteries that most current devices use.
