does gps work even when you dont have cell signal?

I am going to go hiking in a new place and I'm fairly certain there will be little to no T-Mobile signal so will my gps still work?

That depends on whether your GPS operates in Autonomous or Assisted GPS mode. Fortunately you can easily check before you go on your hike. Go outside with a clear view of the sky. Run your GPS app. Acquire the satellites. Then turn off the radio using manage connections. If you immediately lose the satellites, you are in Assisted GPS mode and can expect to have problems. If you keep the satellites but the maps don't update when you move, then the GPS is working in Autonomous Mode and will work without a cell signal. Unless you are using an app that allows you to preload the maps, you won't have maps, but your compass will still work.

Be aware that the gps might use more battery power than you expect and so in a remote location, you might wind up with a dead BB and therefore, no gps to rely on. Also, if you are going to be in an area without good cell service (phone or data) turn them off so the phone is not wasting additional power looking for a signal.

Yeah I'm going to bring an extra battery and just turn off the mobile network as soon as I lose signal.

Hi, I usually use the integrated gps with google maps but i can't view the maps when the mibile signal is off. are there any software that let me load maps in the internal memory for navigate without signal? my devide is the bb 9700.

If you need preloaded maps, you might want to consider TrekBuddy and Mobile GMaps. These are the only two mapping apps that I know of for the BlackBerry that don't use real-time data. I haven't used either.
