Is there any documentation about the media player? I want to know how the bb gets the info about 'artist' 'album' etc. I have a bb curve 8320 running 4.5

Haven't seen any documentation, but most players get that information from the ID3 tags.

mp3tag will definitely work for you - I've used it myself in addition to WMP.

The only things special I've run across are that the BB only looks at the Artist tag, not the Album Artist - I think WMP looks at both. I've had cases where things look good in WMP but are under "Unknown" artist on the BB.

In addition, it doesn't look like the BB Media Player deals with album art embedded in the MP3 very well. At least when WMP puts it there, the song won't play at all and just gets skipped for no apparent reason. mp3tag can strip the album art out as well as Roxio which comes with BB DM.

Only other thing is to put the album art in a folder.jpg file in each album folder - that's there the media player looks for it.
