Do you think BBRY BB10 will be supported 4 years down the road?

Sometimes I envy AAPL that they support their old devices up to 4 years. Example is 3GS. it came out in 2009 and their last OS update is iOS 6, which ends in 2013. . Considering iOS 7 would at least have a year lifespan, so with iPhone 4 came out in 2010, 4S in 2011, 5 in 2012, 5S in 2013, and 6 in 2014, now you see the 4 gets up to minimum 4 years. My iPhone 5 would at least last until 2016 before I have to upgrade.

Would BB10 (Z10, Q10, Q5) would be obsolete a year down the road? I don't think Z10 would still get a SW in 2017, I think 2014 would be done...

Considering how BBRY SW is distributed via carriers, once it's end of life, I do not think these handsets will be supported by carriers anymore.

that's why even though I like BBRY, I still own iPhone because of its longevity, and this is why people are fleeing BBRY partly because no SW support.

Are you that big of a pessimist? QNX is excellent technology and it's up to posts like this and the bamboon media to slander all optimism for a great company.

If you're asking if the Z10 and Q10 will be supported for years like Apple devices, it's hard to say but I would lean towards no sole for the fact that most OS5 devices couldn't get OS6....OS6 devices couldn't get OS7 and OS7 devices (predictably) couldn't get BB10.

If you're worried, I suggest u just buy the devices for what they can do now

All indications are that BlackBerry has failed to gain traction among consumers and more worries among enterprise customers.

They are desperate to sell the company to someone, anyone. Don't see a buyer looking a BB10 as a opportunity for profit - they would have to spend BILLIONS more after the Billions it will take to buy the company, with only a marginal shot at success.

Who ever the buyer ends up being, it will be for the parts that have value. The rest will be written off as a loss. If the hardware division is kept going, it will be as a niche producer of Enterprise grade devices running a rebranded BB10.


IF a miracle did happen and they stayed in business.... still no, a device today is not going to get updated. BB10 is not the modular OS that many expected, each device requires it's own software package and even within the same device there are different variants. Add to the fact that Carrier don't support devices that old.... Our only hope would be some kind of hybrid.

I really doubt it and I agree with you. That is a major benefit to being with Apple products.

I wish BlackBerry would do the same.

IF they arent sold and broken into parts or have their os shut down and are bought to continue making their phones and OS then sort of.

i think os10 would receive maintenence os upgrades to fix bugs and stuff like legacy os 5 & 6 did when we all had os7 as the latest, this is assuming they have moved onto os 11 and the current bb10 phones cant upgrade to os11

In a word no because IF BlackBerry is still a viable concern 4 years from now I would hope that they are not wasting time and resources on an "ancient" OS and the devices that run them. Part of that whole "Keep moving" thing.

Wouldn't the best be for BlackBerry to still be in existence and on BB15 or something and well past where we are now?

Yes. BB10 was built to be a platform for the next 10 years.

Unless technology radically changes I think BlackBerry 10 will continue to improve on itself and not recode everything from scratch.

Essentially we are saying the same thing but, for me,if 4 years from now we are talking about BB10 that would be sad beyond belief. They did not have to do a great deal of recoding to go from 4 to 5, 5 to 6, 6 to 7, so it isn't unthinkable to think they could with minimal effort go from 10 to 11 or 12 and beyond. The point is the 10 OS should progress. Viewing BB10 as "the OS for the next decade" is a death sentence.

I don't think they meant that they would have Bb10 for the next 10 years. I think they meant that it is a platform that can be updated in a better fashion than the old OS. Far more 'future proof'.
