    Hi Guys/Gals,

I've had my 9810 for almost a week now and considering I've signed up with BB Protect for back-ups, do I 'need' to use the DM at all? Wondering if I should be backing up to my laptop as well for any reason.

I will probably use DM to do an iTunes sync once my memory card arrives, but not sure what else I'd need it for.

    Any advice?

"Need" is a matter of opinion, IMO.

I would make a backup regularly, just in case.
I mostly use DM to sync my outlook stuff.

I just use DM to backup my 9900.

Google and Sync2 does everything else with my contacts and calendar.

I store backups on my ThinkPad (laptop/notebook). The other reason I use BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 is to transfer encrypted files like pictures and videos back and forth between my BlackBerry handset and my pc. You need to use DTS 6 for that. If you try to transfer encrypted files from your phone to your pc with the USB drive feature, they will be unreadable on your pc.
