Curious... does BlackBerry have any responsibility with regards to instilling loyalty?

Should folks be loyal to indigenous companies no matter what?
Keep the money in Canada by:
    1) Spending it at yard sales, or
    2) Going to hockey games, or
    3) Spending it on prostitutes, or
    4) Beer or
    5) Tattoos.
(These are the only “truly” Canadian businesses still operating)

    Conclusion:
Go to a hockey game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day!

So none of the store owners are Canadian where they sell items not made there? Or the people who work in those stores? But funny post

I don't think beer counts any more, aren't Molsons and Labbats both owned by foreign interests now?

And FWIW I don't care what smartphone anyone else is using, and I don't understand why anyone else would care what smartphone I use. Folks should just use whatever best meets their own particular needs and desires.

NO. I'll choose a Canadian company over the competition IF a) there is an equivalent product and b) it is priced competitively.

I've noticed that a lot of people get laughed at or criticized for using Blackberry smartphones (especially in the US), but I live in Canada (Ottawa region) and I've (thankfully) never ever experienced this (perhaps not yet). I have however heard some small criticism of Blackberry smartphones (but no criticism about Blackberry smartphone users). Some of the things I've heard are that there are no apps and no games (exaggeration), the phone is garbage (criticism of legacy BBOS devices - the new Blackberry phones are excellent), and that the company is slowly dying (subjective and only partially true). On the bright side, I know people who have a positive reaction to seeing my Blackberry such as one person who said she missed the physical keyboard so much (she told me typing on a virtual keyboard is so slow), a few people who ask me "Is that a Blackberry? It looks so cool! (referring to my Z10 or previously my Blackberry Curve). I'm hoping that the positive reactions in Canada are not exclusive to Ottawa. Are they? I hope most Canadians are still cheering for the company. At least Canadians do not bash the company and its smartphones as much as Americans do (In my opinion so far.) Perhaps it might be due to Blackberry being a Canadian corporation.

Let me know if Canadians really do bash Blackberry and its smartphones and smartphone users less than Americans do.
You support your country through your taxes..private companies have to support themselves. I do not care where the products I buy were made if they fit my liking. Btw, did Blackberry care about Canadians when they fired thousands? Did the Ceo lowered his salary to save few hundred jobs? NO. I do not understand loyalty toward corporations..sure you might be concerned about the employees being your countrymen but this love for corporation whose only interest is made money for their shareholders is misplaced. BB and other won't think twice to fire people or relocate if another country offer them better taxation.

It's hard to say because there is no way to really judge. But from a general perspective I would say maybe? I get ribbed by my friends who are all on iPhone but other than that no one has randomly criticized me for using a BB. Our media can be split on how they report on the company. Some are favorable others are rather harsh. But our carriers tend to have at least one model available and I've never had the experience some people in the States report where a carrier has tried to steer me away from BB. I also see a lot more Blackberrys here in the wild than I do in the States so that is likely a factor.

It does make me proud as an American that Canadians still support their own companies and always should.

I for one look for the Made in USA labels and try and support our American workers, but now it's about being politically correct and watching our industry being shipped overseas for the sake of cheap labor.

As with you, we still have Apple which is an American company and employs a lot of engineering and management folks here in the USA, even if they manufacture their products offshore in China just like Blackberry does.
Free trade and commerce cuts both ways. Do you realize how many people in other countries who loose jobs to Americans?

We only seem to have an issue when the Jobs leave America, an not when the jobs leave elsewhere and end up in America.

My point exactly!!! The world is bigger than Canada, the United States the UK and Europe. There are people in these "cheap labour" countries as you call it that, have lost jobs to Americans, Europeans and Canadians.

Again, the issue just seem to matter when the jobs leave the US, Europe and Canada and not visa versa.

I deal with corporate stores for Telus and Bell and my wife deals with Rogers, and between us we have got Z10s, Q10s, Classics and my Passport with no trouble whatsoever. There are functional units in stores for display and the reps are professional with your phone choice... no backchat or snide comments that I have seen.

Lots of them out there in the wild now as well, get more and more e-mails sent with the 'Sent from my BlackBerry 10 device' coming in my inbox lately.

BlackBerry would have already left for another country with lower taxation if they wanted to. I think that the tax avoidance you speak of is related to another fruit named smartphone manufacturer.

The BlackBerry is a very specialised product. Either you need a PKB or you do not.

Most consumers, if not all consumers , want an all touch phone that has access to one of two real app stores. BlackBerry badly needs to bring on a BlackBerry themed Android phones.

The Canadian smartphone market is very small. We have three main carriers and if they do not stock or support a phone it will not get sold. It is quite telling that none of the major carriers are taking orders for the Leap.

It seems to me that most young people do not know BlackBerry has a Canadian connection. I never understood why they brought out a Jakarta edition but no Canadian one, maybe red with a little white maple leaf logo.

I constantly get negative feedback from people about my BlackBerry. They always say they miss the physical keyboard but then trash me on having the z10 and how I should've just gotten an iPhone. But sometimes I do get people who tell me how "vintage" it is or how awesome it is to still have a BlackBerry, though rare.

I'm in Ontario and I have received negative criticism for having a BlackBerry device. There seems to be a negative stigma about the BlackBerry brand.
