I have always had people be surprised when I'm either making calls or texting, etc. while they can't, in various instances (beach, driving, etc.).

Had it happen with my 9710, my Z10, and my Z30 (although admittedly I did notice that the Z10 wasn't the best BlackBerry reception-wise - still better than other phones though).

In the woods of north central Ontario, away from the towers, my BlackBerry z10 and Q5 has way better reception than iphone 4,5 and Samsung galaxies lg phones tried. And my BlackBerry z30 has better reception than my q5 or z10.

So yes I would say BlackBerry has very good reception.

My Z30 consistently gets 4G LTE on Verizon in rural areas whereas my iPhone or my Note Edge will drop down to 3G. If I know I'm going out towards the middle of nowhere, Ohio, I bring my Z30 for reliability.

My Q10 always has a great single even in areas known for having poor reception/signals. Sadly my Z10 does not. For whatever reason it always struggles in areas with a weak signal.

Even at that, I have anecdotal proof (I know, an oxymoron) that the Z10 has a better radio than iPhone 5.

No from my experience. When we went hiking, my Z30 always lost signals before my wife's iphone 6 plus.

My guess is it varies from device to device. I know of Z10s with great reception. For whatever reason my Z10 just doesn't seem to be one of them.

Radios have been known to go bad. I know that I had all sorts of coverage issues with the 9700 I had years ago, thinking that it was due to T-Mobile's spotty coverage at the time (they've gotten much better since). It was only when I traveled outside of T-Mobile's coverage area that I realized that I had no coverage at all from the alternate AT&T 911 coverage, while my wife's Torch, on AT&T, was just fine. A replacement 9700 fixed the issue.

No, and quite frankly, my iphone 6+ gets better reception than my classic. I can make calls with the iphone in places where the classic can't get a signal. I've had a z10, z30, passport and classic, and in all honesty, my iphone gets as good if not better than any of those blackberries. Not bashing, just saying. In my experience, there is zero truth to the rumor BB's get better reception than other phones. And in some cases, worse.
