Hello everyone, I'm a proud owner of a BB Torch 9800, got it last year as soon as it came out....so naturally, the love of having a better model made me purchase the new Torch 9810.

I have a lot of important data stored in my old Torch, how is the data transfer from the old torch with OS 6 to the new torch that comes with OS 7?

I have the latest Blackberry desktop software installed, but I haven't checked if the software has phone to phone data transfer like older versions on the desktop software....will check now though.

I weekly backup and sync my BB with my Mac and also with Blackberry Protect, I just want to be sure of the steps I need to take to successfully transfer all my data from my old torch to my new one when it arrives on thursday this week.

    Greetings,

    Luis

Glad you figured it out. I used Blackberry Protect to do the switch.

DM is the most sure way to switch device. I did it when switching OS5 to OS7 device without any issue. The caveat is that DO NOT port over any third party apps.

I also use MAC and found that DM on MAC can safely perform this task. But DM on PC has more options to work with.

A safer option is to back up your 9700, then perform restoring to the new 9810. Again, when you restore, do not choose 3rd party apps unless you run a data backup only.

    Enjoy your new 9810.

Oh, so the third party apps should not be ported over, I used DM and used the switch devices option and thought it would transfer all my apps etc from the 9800 to the 9810. I now see that none of my apps are transferred, how do I get those apps back?

I am guessing I have to download and install each application seperately and set them up again? I thought thats what DM was for! I'll be all night at getting the new phone up to where the 9800 was with the few apps I have on it!!

Some of the apps you have on your 9800 may not work on your 9810. Just go to app world and it will let you know which ones you can re-install, assuming you got them from appWorld. If you use DM to load your apps it can cause a problem with your new phone. It will not take you all night. Just a few minutes. Better to be safe than sorry.

Better safe than sorry is exactly my point. It won't be that bad really.

My first run with DM using switch device didn't move all my data and files. I had to complete the switch device two times before it got all the apps and data from the 9800. Just got the phone paired with my PB and am checking apps, etc. Looking forward to using the 9810.
