Dear folks,
Rumors say that we'd better not to tell anybody our blackberry pin because it could be used for cloning to another blackberry handheld to replace its suspended pin.
Is that true? Or how it works if it's true?

Dear folks,

Not true on either point
1) Every BB has a unique PIN. Two identical one cannot exist
The PIN is not like the one for you ATM card. It is just an
identifier for your specific device.
If it were dangerous the Social and PIN sharing forum
would absolutely not exist
2) The person trying to suspend a phone would need the IMEI
number, not the PIN. That you should never post.
Think about it this way. I have 142 BBM contacts. I have
access to every one of their PIN numbers and I can do nothing
with that info except use it to contact them.
So, to my understanding. The IMEI and PIN should be given in order one can inject them to another blackberry handheld? That's what I am thinking.
No, both are unique to a device and two devices cannot share
them. There is no way to change either. Whatever the device
PIN and IMEI is, is what it will ALWAYS be.
EDIT: My bad. I read one word in your post wrong and made
a very unreasonable assumption. I apologize for that.
As AG says.
You should consider your phone's PIN in the same way you consider your email address and phone number. At a practical level it is simply another way to identify your phone and make contact with it. If you would not disclose your number or email in <whatever> circumstances, think twice about revealing the PIN.
The "danger" in publishing any of these identifiers is not cloning, but it increases the risk you will get spam and nuisance calls.
I agree with AG and Branta on this one...
