I see what you guys are saying, and it makes sense.
On the other hand, looking at sales of recent releases, what does BBRY have to lose? Might as well drop something unusual.
That could be the thinking.

I don't disagree. Like I said. It's a big gamble and I hope it ends up paying out for BlackBerry. I feel that anymore failures could end up destroying them financially and continue to ruin their reputation. Imagine how bad a PR hit the company will take if the Passport flops. It would be devastating.
Are we really going to make a new thread every time someone posts this overused joke? There are far more Ios and Android jokes out there but I don't see iMore and AndroidCentral users making threads everytime they spot one. Stop being so defensive and sensitive. Everyone and their dog knows that it's easy to create click-bait/flame-bait content for crackberry.
I have no issue with trying out something different or risky. But being different just to be different doesn't work in many areas and enterprise handsets (if indeed the Passport is being targeted there - the message being circulated in public is somewhat confusing on this point) is one of them. The square screen is odd but not really objectionable. The sharp corners absolutely are. They are not comfortable, will snag and damage material, and offer no discernible benefit. I am also iffy about the keyboard, primarily because many BB keyboard phone owners seem to carry two such phones and I think the Passport keyboard is different enough that switching between phones will no longer be as seamless for these owners. Given that typing speed and accuracy are expressed as advantages for pkbs, in large part because the fingers know the key placement, I anticipate losing at least some of the advantage for users who routinely switch between their phones. Stick with one model or the other, shouldn't be an issue at all. But using both I would certainly find mildly annoying (I can feel the difference switching from PC full size keyboard during day and Mac laptop at night and it takes a little bit of time to regain the feel for the different keyboards)
Some very good points. Thanks for a great post. I have been saying some of those things too.
I actually did a French to English translation of Verge on google and LOL'd!! Absolutely apt!:rotfl:
Yeah, it would be disappointing if the final thing has sharp corners like that, but I doubt it. I remember when the X10 (Q10) was making the pre-release rounds like the passport is now, it looked very different to the finished product which I really like till now.
As for the keyboard, well my first qwerty was the 8310, and going from the curve series to the bold series to the Q10, the keyboard placements differ and even though the form factor wasn't a drastic change, it does take a little while to settle into the new size, I experienced this even between the 9900 and the Q10, so for me keyboard difference is not that big a deal. The square screen however will take some getting used to
Again? More of this garbage site?
No one who likes BlackBerry should ever read or give the Verge a moment's notice or thought. When I heard Topolsky was joining Bloomberg I vomited in my mouth a little. They are probably the most blatantly anti-BlackBerry site on the web with no objectivity in their reporting whatsoever. Any fan should block the site. Any shareholder should actively promote users to not visit this site.
Way too many good tech sites in the world to pay attention to this trash. Let's just hope that they one day fade into obscurity and give their more worthy competitors the clicks and ad revenue.
This particular note BTW isn't that offensive and what riled me up. It's fine to express your opinion. But there were a series of podcasts where they took in callers (perhaps staged?) and openly mocked them on the air as if they were stupid and incompetent people for using a BlackBerry. That's where I draw the line - this is definitely one site that should be filtered, blocked, and censored by CrackBerry if it has a spine.
What I find most interesting are the Tech Bloggers that dismiss BlackBerry always refer back to "But the CrackBerry people will like it" or "No one but the CrackBerry faithful will appreciate it".
That tells me that the bloggers consider the 100's of thousands of CB members and CrackBerry as the go to place and we are the experts for BlackBerry products.
That's quite a compliment. Well done everyone! :)
edit: Oh, and they must be visiting this site often!
Cool avatar! Great smile.:)
I agree, its pointless to bash every one who make BBRY related joke.
