Im looking to upgrade from my 8520 and i could get the 9700 For $250 Or the 9300 for $140. My question is what is the onbord memory really used for? Will the 9700 always have better firmware then the 9300? Sorry but im kinda new to the BB scene.

The memory is used for the operating system and any applications. It is also used for user files such as contacts and media.
The 9700 is a premium device. Although it was just refreshed with the 9780. The Curve 3G is an entry level BlackBerry. It has a cheaper feel, but has more memory and is capable with running OS6 which the Bold barely can. There are a few leaked versions for the Bold, but it wasn't designed for it as much as the 9780 or the Curve 3G.

This is only partially true. The 9330 (CDMA version of the Curve 3G) is has 512mb of memory, the 9300 (GSM version of the Curve 3G) has 256mb, the same as the Bold 9700.
CDMA = Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular
GSM = AT&T, T-Mobile
There hasn't been any word of an OS7, the newest OS available is BlackBerry 6, which will be available for both the 9700 and the 9300. It has been said that OS6 runs best on a device with 512mb of memory.
Since it seems that you're trying to decide between phones on AT&T or T-Mobile, I say get the 9700. When compared with the 9300 it is a far superior device. Better screen, camera, processor... Just an all around better device IMO.
The same processor is inside the pearl 3G, curve 3G, bold 9000/9650/9700/9780/Torch 9800. Camera and memory differ between devices.

I don't think the Curve 3G is "cheaper-feeling" than the Bold at all. In fact, I'd say it's far more "solid" than my two previous BB's (the original Pearl and the Pearl Flip. The lower portion of the Flip always felt really cheap to me, although to be fair I never had problems with it).
When I upgraded, I compared the build quality of the Curve 3G and Bold 9780, they both seemed to be built really well. The biggest difference is the keyboard buttons: some people prefer one style over the other. I don't think one is better or worse than the other, just different.
The deciding factor is most likely going to be hardware specs and price. As previous posters said, the Bold 9780 has twice as much system memory, a much better camera and a sharper screen. But it's a lot more expensive than the Curve 3G. I've seen video footage of both running OS6, and the Curve 3G was almost as snappy as the Bold.
Once I saw that footage and realised the the Curve should be able to handle OS6 just fine, I decided to save some money and get the Curve 3G, which was free after rebate (the Bold 9780 would've cost me almost $100 even after rebates). I also don't particularly care too much about most cellphone cameras, so that wasn't an issue for me. Also, while the screen on the Bold was a bit nicer, I didn't notice as much of a difference as I thought I would. Oh, and I have always made a point to completely close out apps and not leave things running in the background, so I've never run into memory issues.
I'd recommend going into a store that has both phones and spend some time comparing them side by side to see which one you like more.

Quite frankly, I'd wait for the 9780 if you're considering the 9700. At this point there's really no reason not to. Otherwise it depends. If you're not really a power user, the Curve may be a better option.
How often do you use the camera? The screen is much lower resolution and looks way worse on the 9300 and the camera is a significant downgrade with no flash as well. Personally, I'd never get over the lower resolution screen because it's what you see every time you look at your phone. Though some don't always agree.
If you can afford the 9700 I would definitely go with it. I had a similar situation as to choose between the 9650 and the 9330. The Curve 9300 is a good device but the better camera and screen resolution make it worth the extra money. Im guessing these prices are not with new contracts so I would say go with the 9700. You wont regret spending the extra money.
Wrong, 9650 processor is different than the rest of the models you listed.
But wouldn't i be better prepared getting the 9300 because the internal memory is higher and it would most likely support the next firmware and since the 9700s is slower it most likely wont?

Everyone I know with a curve has at least one problem with it. I was going to get one but I decided to get the torch because it seemed like a batter phone. My bestfriend had the older curve, and upgraded to the bold 9700 and she loves it! She says it's muchh better and she'll never go back!
Like I state in my post above, the 9300 and the 9700 have the same internal memory, 256mb. It's the 9330 that has 512mb, and that particular model is not available on carriers that have the 9700, because the 9330 is exclusively for carriers that run a CDMA network. The 9700 and the 9300 run on the GSM network.
If you want my opinion, go with the 9700. It's a much nicer device.

The 9700 is a far more superior device than the Curve 3G, Curve 9300 has the same 2567 MB of memory, only the 9330 has 512 MB of memory.
Furthermore, the 9700 has a better camera and flash, the 9300 has a 2 MP camera only with no flash and a low resolution screen, the 9700 has a far better battery as well.
I'd pick the 9700 if I were you since the price difference won't break the bank. Or better yet, get the 9780 which has a 5 megapixel camera, OS 6 out of the box, and 512 MB of memory.
