Is there some software I can use to get a backup of contacts and text messages? For example, with BBSAK I can copy all COD files... Is one of these files my contact list that can be put back once I restore the OS?

I cannot connect using the official BB Desktop Software as my device will not connect... But I can connect with BBSAK...

No. The user data is backed up as .ipd files on the PC, not as CODs. You can restore user data from a DM backup, but not from CODs, as the backups are not COD files.

Is there any way to get into the blackberry through a terminal program or some other similar backdoor?

There are no recent .ipd files for me to load, but I need to get the data off the device before I reinstall the OS.
