I just got notified that Software release 10.2.1.2122 is available for download on my Z10. However, 10.2.1.537 is already running on my z10 so I'm wondering why I'm even getting this update? Please help I'm confused.

It makes sense if you spell out the number.

Two thousand one hundred twenty two

    Vs.

    Five hundred thirty seven

Which one is higher? Obviously two thousand.

It doesn't matter which is higher. They're both the same software.

10.2.1.537 is the same as 10.2.1.1925
10.2.1.2212 is NOT the same as 10.2.1.1925

People are confusing bundle and OS versions.

OP it's likely that the one you currently have came from a different provider either one from overseas or Canada. US providers tend to always have 4 digits behind the 0 or 1 (i.e 10.0.1.xxxx, 10.2.1.xxx).

Not entirely sure what you are talking about. The carrier OS versions have been very close to one another recently as BlackBerry is releasing global roll outs at a much better pace. Both the initial 10.2.1 and this one have been within a couple weeks of one another.

There are three numbers that describe *things that are on your phone*:

OS VERSION: The operating system of the phone. 10.2.1.1925 is what you have on your phone right now, 10.2.1.2174 is what Verizon says is available. 10.2.1.2174 is newer, so you should update.
RADIO VERSION: The software that allows the phone to connect to any sort of network. 10.2.1.1899 is what you have on your phone right now, 10.2.1.2174 is what Verizon says is available. 10.2.1.2175 is newer, so you should update.
SOFTWARE VERSION: Meaningless. 10.2.1.537 is what you have on your phone right now, 10.2.1.2122 is what Verizon says is available. Whoever thought of this at BB is a sick, twisted person.

So, should you upgrade? Yes. The 10.2.1.2100+ series of OS releases is the polishing and bugfixes branch of OS 10.2.1. It's also the latest software available to the public.

So.... those are two distinct things you are comparing. In your case. 537 is a software release, and .1925 is an operating system version.

In the image below, I have OS version .2174, which is part of software release .2122.

In other words, software release 2122 comprises OS version. 2174 + a compatible radio file + other carrier junk. If you load a leaked OS version (non-released) it will usually not have a software release version with it because it has not been released.

I wish I had a screenshot before updating. My phone said OS Version .1925 and under software release it said no information available. I updated and the only thing I noticed change was "No info available" changed to .537 yet I still had 30 megs to download and install. I realize I'm comparing two different things but my phone treated it like I hadn't had .1925 at all.

Like I said, if you loaded a leak using an autoloader then the Software release field is usually unpopulated (as you stated). Now you've installed a Software Release that was pushed out and included OS 10.2.1.2174

I believe a 30 Meg update is typically just the carrier "bloatware. "
