I've been a non-blackberry user these last 3 years but I can still remember fond memories typing on my Curve and Bold...I just switched from iphone4 to galaxy s3 but I REALLY/TRULY/SERIOUSLY want to "come back home." I'm up in the air about which BB10 device to purchase...the L or N series but I simply refuse to get rid of my unlimited data plan with Verizon, so my BB has to be purchased off contract...maybe RIM can learn from latest Nexus 4 device popularity and sell the L and N at a really competitive unsubsidized price, as I know many people who would really like to switch back w/o paying a ton of $ ! any thoughts and ideas that I can live off for now...thanks all.

I am switching back from iPhone 4 to a BB10 even if it costs more than an iPhone 5. Time and productively are more important than couple bucks.

thats nice for you, but if we want rim to succeed, then the op point remains valid.
i will prob buy regardless as well but we are very much in the minority.

I believe the L-series will be $600 without a contract.

Budget carriers such as Koodo may carry it for $400, but it won't be compatible with Verizon.

The major carriers price the phones they sell, not RIM. If you notice, people in other countries can buy phones cheaper than here in the US.

All the major US carriers want to make as much money as they can, so they only offer good deals on the flagship phones with contracts. And, they also want to get people to give up their grandfathered cheaper unlimited plans by giving deals on phones.

The only way I can see them coming with a cheaper device is if they built out the BIS service to be more than just access to the internet and subsidize it through the improved service.
