I am under the impression that apps already running on the PlayBook will be compatible with BB10 at launch.

Does anyone have the answer to this question?

    Thanks in advance!

then why in the "top ten things we're looking forward to so far" article posted by Kevin does he mention

"Mobile apps are out there today and they are expected. That being the case, we don't think it's the app selection in App World come January that will cause people to run out and buy a BlackBerry 10 phone, at least not initially. But a lack of apps might prevent potential customers from buying it."

Aren't there nearly 30,000 Playbook Apps available to date? Aren't bigger names coming at launch?

    Here's a reality check:

    1. Many people think that "only" 30,000 apps is the very definition of "lack of apps". Comparisons will continue to be made with other digital stores. It will take some time until App World gets universal good press in this matter. Maybe BlackBerry will never catch up in the eyes of many influential bloggers and reviewers.

    2. Although PB apps are very likely to run on BB10, there are significant differences that developers will need to deal with especially with respect to UI elements in general. My own app runs fairly well but will need to be tweaked due to much higher resolution on BB10 devices. The font sizes appear to be miniscule on the Dev Alpha device. There are rumours that there will be a square screen on the BB10 model with a physical keyboard. This is contrary to what we have been led to believe so far and will require a rethink of the UI for many apps that were designed with the PB's aspect ratio in mind. Some developers will avoid the extra work involved and may not wish to support some models or will delay their offering for those models. The general quality and quality of apps will be much improved over the poorly received PB launch but let's face it, some folk are never satisfied. There will be enough broken, malfunctioning and poorly designed apps to make the glass-half-empty crowd delirious with opportunities to trash App World.

    3. It would be foolhardy to believe that all of the "bigger names" will be on board at launch. I believe that some of them will be in the game but the ones that remain as holdouts will be significant enough to cause a renewal of negative sentiment in the blogosphere.

It's not a rumour. RIM has confirmed that all BB10 physical keyboard phones will have square screens with 720x720.
All full screen phones will have 1280x720...with the exception of the Dev Alpha & the first BB10 full touch phone which will have 1280x768.....The reason for this is that they were created B4 the final descision was made on screen resolution going forword
