I have installed my gmail account on my BB9700 and have gone to the email setup folder to activate the Google sync function. However, when I try to login, it refuses to recognize my password. I have double and triple checked, and I am entering the correct word, correctly. I gave the "forgot password" link a go and was told that it was being sent to my BB, but that never happened. I am in Hong Kong on the 1010 (CSL) network and am using their website to undertake this task, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues. There's no question that the process of adding email accounts is different here than I have experienced back in the States, but I think I am at a point where that shouldn't be a problem.
