I got a 9930/Bold and thought that I could potentially use my 9650/Bold as a kind of knock-around device.

But I cannot get the wifi on it to work?

It shows my Wifi (Zero) but has the MINUS (-) in the right column and not the CHECK or whatever it use to show. I cannot use the wifi for BerryWeather or for browsing? BWeather appears to have a wifi setting. Maybe the browser does not work that way.

Possibly complicating things, I did get a new router after the deactivation and maybe the older 9650 does not recognize the 2/5 frequencies or the N mode or ????

    Any help appreciated

I just used the router to ping (not that I really know what that might mean):

    PING 192.168.1.95 (192.168.1.95): 32 data bytes

    40 bytes from 192.168.1.95: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=217.4 ms

    40 bytes from 192.168.1.95: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=215.6 ms

    40 bytes from 192.168.1.95: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=226.2 ms

    40 bytes from 192.168.1.95: icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=35.5 ms

    40 bytes from 192.168.1.95: icmp_seq=4 ttl=255 time=49.4 ms

    --- 192.168.1.95 ping statistics ---

5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0% packet loss

    round-trip min/avg/max = 35.5/148.8/226.2 ms

Also, the 9650 is set (no choice) to 802.11b/g

Also tried the Bolt Browser the "uZard" browser and neither finds the internet.

Here's an image of the manage connections screen:

I won't be much help, but I do know the 9650 only supports B and G, not N.

Configure the router. Try b only. Restart your router.

Ah, easier said then done. Linksys e3200. I was just looking around its various pages and settings and did not see where I could change this, although I know it should be fairly obvious!

Ah, one of those LITTLE DOTS (select MANUAL). I will see about changing it.

I think you have to have a BlackBerry data plan on the phone before the native browser will work.

Do you know if the 9650 is limited to

2.4 or 5 Ghz bands? And whether the Channel makes a difference?

    Thanks.

Tonis (sorry about your tilda), I believe you are correct but Bolt and that other browser may work. I recall Bolt working ages ago when the rim network was down for a day or so.

I think Opera Mini might be one that works without BIS.

You need to have the WiFi Service Books if you are not using a data plan. See HoFo for details and downloads of service books. I know you can have this working with both OS 5 and OS 6. If you use OS 5, you can set the HotSpot browser to be your default. Opera Mini and Opera Mini Next also work great.

+1 when I got my 9650 I still had my (deactiviated) Storm2, and the native browser worked fine over wifi.

i never had a problem with my 9650, i changed over to the 8530 and i'm still able to use the wifi.

Maybe you should try to use a different router.

or you might just need to install the WiFi Service Books, here is how.

1- Install blackberry desktop software 6.
2- download Browser_via_TCP_all_network_beta_V1.1 in attachment in this post.
3- Go to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book in your phone and hold ALT and press S B E B
4- you will see the message Legacy SB Restore Enable.
5- open blackberry desktop software 6 after you install it and connect your phone with your PC .
7- In blackberry desktop software 6 Go to Device > Restore and select the folder you downloaded after you Unzip it .
8- wait until processing complete and click close !.
9- make sure to do those steps very well and you will not face any problem
