Hello, my question is can I use an unlocked used blackberry bought from Toronto, Canada in Venezuela with Movistar or Digitel?

Or does it have to be factory unlocked?

    Please help!

If it's unlocked you can use it there, provided they have a carrier which supports BIS services. If they don't (which I'm sure they do) it'll act as nothing more then a phone and text messaging device. The real question here is whether or not Movistar or Digitel offer services without contract for you to make use of that also include BIS.

You already posted this in the rogers section too, just leave it to one post, that way its easier for people to reply and you to get the right answer

It has been two or three years since I have been there, but I used Digitel, as it was the GSM provider. At the time, Movistar was a CDMA carrier, so the modern Rogers phones would not work on the Movistar system. I was not using data , just a regular Pay as you go sim.
