There is a "mobile internet" option on Blackberry Device Manager. Will I be charged extra on a no contract plan?

I have had several store reps it is cheaper if you use your blackberry if i don't need any super fast connection. Also once before they walked me thru to set it up on my XP pro laptop. I have never been charged for any thing extra in the past. I have used NY blackberry as a modem in XP pro and also used the desktop mgr and never been charged. Verizon and At&t will I know for sure.
