I have a VZW 8330 which I am no longer using.

Can I use it as just to just make phone calls/send SMS text without having a data plan

    Thanks

I guess Verizon is a non-sim card carrier.

You're probably better off selling it before it loses any more value and then use the money to buy a regular dumb phone.

Verizon is not GSM. The OP has an 8330 and has VZW listed as their carrier.

The only carrier that will allows one to use a SmartPhone w/o a Data Pack is t-Mobile- and thats only if you buy a phone third party or pay full price for the device.

You can use a BB without a data plan. I just didn't take into account who his/her carrier was.

If you are going to use it on Verizon's network, then no, you can't.

It's possible but some carriers don't let it happen.

Most carriers do not allow this, including Verizon, which is who the OP is with.

AT&T you can as well provided you have an unbranded phone. If it's branded, AT&T's system will recognize the IMEI and send you the friendly little text letting you know a data plan has been added to your account.

The only way you can use a BB without a data plan is if you were using a BB on T-Mobile. That is the only carrier who allows this.
