I have a 5 year old blackberry that is slowing down, is it possible to use the sim card in a new blackberry?

You should get a new SIM card... the new ones use Nano or Micro Sim card

You can cut a normal SIM card into micro or nano size. I've been using the same one since my Curve 9300.

You could do that but better to use a new one... the old one tend to accumulate dust, oil, carbon and other contaminants... I used to have a lot of dropped calls but after changing the SIM card it dropped radically.

Sometimes the way the sim card is cut could damage it too
