Can all US Blackberry Curve 8330's update to OS 5.0? I have a Alltel 8330 Curve running OS 4.5 and would like to update the OS. Verizon bought Alltel and stopped updating the Alltel website at OS 4.5 so Im not sure what to do.

    Thanks

If there is an 5.0 OS for the 8330 then yes. You have to delete the vendor.xml file to use it.

You have to make sure you have an 8330, and NOT an 8330M. Go to Options -> About, and it will tell you on the first line which you have. There is no 5.0 for 8330m, but there is one for 8330.

Follow the directions posted by kbz1960 right above me if you're not an "M" user.

Wargears, OS 5 is. Bit bloated. You may want to check this out after your install. I am running OS 5.0.0.438 and have around 32mb file free after using this tutorial. Read it thoroughly before starting. Avoid deleting the stock themes. Happy hunting!

Do we have to or should we update to OS 5? I just got my 8330. How can I tell what OS I have?

This phone is brand new, and it hourglasses when I send pictures. Forever, it seems. Would updating assist with that? It says current version is 5.0.0.438.

Is that it? Its checking for updates...

You don't have to do anything but use your device with the standard OS that came on it. Virtually any other choice OS wise is optional.

It might be too big to run effectively and you might be better off with a hybrid OS instead. I had an 8330 prior to this running a hybrid between 145 and 169 that ran pretty well.

Sometimes it's best to experiment with various OS' to see what works best for you. There's nothing to fear about changing OS'.

You have the latest OS 5. To avoid the hourglassing, you probably need to shrink the OS or try a hybrid, as other posters mentioned, since your file free is really low despite not having a lot of apps installed.

If the picture you are trying to send has not been rezsized it will take a while to upload.
