iMore just posted an article about iOS devices being susceptible to having their camera and microphones used by installed apps without the knowledge of the users.

Privacy and security in the age of iPhone mics and cameras | iMore.com

My question is, why is BB not susceptible to this? There are apps that use the mic and the camera, so why can't these things be done on a BB? What is it about the OS that prevents that from happening. I know, 'BB is secure'. But why?

Can't speak for BB10, but up until OS7, you could grant apps very specific (and limited) permissions. 'Recording' under Interactions probably controlled the mic permission.

When you install an app you have to give it permissions to use certain parts of our phone, and BlackBerry will not put them into BlackBerry World if they don't ask and tell the user what they are doing. Installing 3rd party apps (sideloading) won't ask or check...this is the simple answer...
